LEADERSHIP HUNTINGTON WINE TASTING
RECRUITMENT EVENT AND BUSINESS MIXER

Huntington, NY – Thursday, August 27, 2009- The Leadership Huntington Foundation held its second successful wine tasting and business mixer recruitment event Wednesday night at the Northport Tasting Room and Wine Bar in downtown Northport Village. Over 40 Leadership Huntington graduates, potential candidates and trustees came together to learn more about the Leadership Huntington Flagship Program over a glass of wine and network with members of the community.

Northport Tasting Room and Wine Bar owner Matt Spirn presented a variety of wines from around the world to participants who were able to taste each featured wine. Attendees of the event then mingled with graduates and trustees to learn more about the Leadership Huntington Flagship Program, which is actively recruiting potential candidates for the Class of 2010.

“This was a super successful start to our 2010 recruitment campaign,” stated Nolan Briggs, Leadership Huntington Foundation Communications Director and Class of 2002 graduate. “The potential candidates that turned out for the event were excellent and I look forward to seeing all of them at the Opening Retreat. Thanks to Matt and the Northport Tasting Room for hosting us and supporting in our fundraising efforts. Great wine too!”

“I thought the event was well attended and the speakers were passionate about Leadership Huntington,” said Matt Spirn, owner of the Northport Tasting Room and Wine Bar. “The presentation was exciting and convinced me of the merits of the program. It is my pleasure to help support Leadership Huntington’s Flagship Program by sharing the evening’s proceeds to help fund their tuition assistance program.”

Leadership Huntington Foundation Flagship Program participants are carefully selected to represent current and developing leaders from many different cultural, economic, and professional backgrounds. Over a nine month period, participants delve into current community issues during a series of in-depth workshops, as well as meet and interact with key community, business and local government leaders. Throughout the program, participants study the qualities that make an effective leader, analyze individual leadership roles, and develop personal leadership styles and skills. Leadership Huntington is designed to produce well-informed, motivated leaders who are willing and capable of working together for the good of the community.

“Leadership Huntington provides a unique experience for understanding the Town of Huntington,” commented Eric Alexander, Executive Director of Vision Long Island and Leadership Huntington Flagship Program graduate. “The relationships and skills developed through the program have been invaluable to in helping my organization grow region wide. I am proud to say that Vision Long Island has four Leadership Huntington graduates serving on our Board of Directors and three on our staff. Our work across Long Island would be simpler if every Township had a program like Leadership Huntington.”
