Holistic nurse Judy DiBartolo, RN, a Huntington Hospital employee for 32 years, has received the hospital's third annual Magnet Nurse Award. As quoted in the Huntington Hospital Community Health Line: "Nominees for our award must demonstrate their commitment to community service and continuing education," explained Janet Milanese, RN, MS, CNAA, Associate Director of Nursing and Nurse Recruiter. "They must also work to enhance the hospital environment for patients and their peers."
The article goes on to explain that Ms. DiBartolo was one of the pioneers of Huntington Hospital's Center for Complementary Care, and the first Huntington Hospital nurse to achieve national certification in holistic nursing. This passion for complementary techniques, her direct work with patients and her willingness to spearhead a number of initiatives have helped influence the culture of the entire hospital.
The letter nominating Ms. DiBartolo reads in part: "She has a unique ability to connect with her patients at a deep personal and spiritual level. She can comfort even the most fearful patient with encouragement, kindheartedness and empathy... Many nursing professionals admire her expertise with awe. She demonstrates clinical competence in her specialty and had been instrumental in creating the opportunity for alternate modalities of care to be provided to all patients."
Now that's Leadership!
